    Owner/Coach

In 2004 I started training in MMA. I did the “normal” gym thing with lifting weights. I knew there had to be a better way to train for my sport & the “normal” gym wasn’t it. In 2008, I was assigned to a fire station at my fire department, DeKalb County fire. My fire captain at this station was an ex MMA fighter & introduced me to kettlebells. It was a physical fitness game changer. In June 2010, while online reading about some new Kettlebell workouts & learning what a “muscle up” was, I stumbled across the “the main site” Crossfit.com. I looked over every inch of the site & fell in love. This was the type of training I had been looking for all these years! Not only was it great for MMA but also my chosen career as a DeKalb County firefighter. My specialty is with kettlebells, Olympic lifts and pushing people to their physical limits to make them better.

    Josh Gibson "Gibby"

    Head Coach/Trainer

I am a Watkinsville native and 2003 graduate of Oconee County High School. I received my Bachelor's in Business Administration from Shorter College in Rome, GA where I also played football and interned as the Strength and Conditioning coach. Throughout my life, I have always been active in sports, from basketball, baseball and soccer, but football was my life. After my college years of football eligibility ran out, I had to find something active to fill the void. After moving back home to Watkinsville in 2012, I heard a lot about CrossFit and decided to try it out for the community aspect sounded much better than joining a globo-gym alone. After my first workout, I was hooked. The community and friendly competition isn't seen anywhere else in the fitness world- CrossFit doesn't discriminate against previous injuries, talent, especially age and it's amazing to experience. I compete, teach CrossFit classes, personal training, as well as personal training for kids and I could not love it more. I have recently made CrossFit my full time career, and I hope to continue to better myself and many others through CrossFit.

    Sam McDaniel

CF Coach / CF Kids and Homeschool Coach

My husband, Robbie got me & two of our four kids into Crossfit almost three years ago. For our 18th wedding anniversary we both got L1-Certified to coach Crossfit because our love for the "sport of fitness" had grown. Today, I teach CrossFit to homeschoolers at CrossFit Oconee and love to help people meet goals and feel better about themselves. Fitness for me is not about how you look, but about achieving more of what you can do with your body everyday, how healthy you are, and how good you feel.

    Assistant Coach

I was born and raised in Oconee County and I graduated from North Oconee High School in 2009. I have since earned an associates degree in drafting and an associates degree in mechanical engineering. Growing up I didn’t play a lot of sports. I played a few years of rec baseball and soccer but after I started middle school I stop being involved in sports. I didn’t do anything active during my middle school or high school years.      In the spring of 2010 my older brother convinced me to go to the gym with him and after that I was hooked. I did your typical gym routine for about 3 years, mostly weight lifting and body building type workouts. In late 2012 my older brother started working out at a crossfit gym and tried to convince me to join. At first I wasn’t sure about it because I enjoyed my “normal” gym workouts and I am not one who likes change. That following Christmas my mom got me a groupon to try out Crossfit Oconee. I waited a week before the groupon expired before I finally went and tried it.     I fell in love with crossfit after one class. Crossfit changed everything I thought I knew about working out and fitness. Crossfit and Crossfit Oconee have changed my life for the better. I am fitter, stronger, and faster than I have ever been before. I don’t see myself ever going to another gym.     How much Crossfit Oconnee means to me is hard to put into words. They make such an impact on everyone that comes into the gym and I have made made so many good friends from being a part of this awesome community. I can't thank them enough for everything they've done for me and all the other members!

    Robert Cooper

    Assistant Coach

I am a native Athenian. I graduated and played college baseball at the University of West Georgia. I live in Athens working as a Account Executive with Guardian Home Care.

I've has always been into exercising and into anything active that will allow him to eat another donut. I was introduced to CrossFit by a friend after being tired of doing the "same old thing" at the monster gyms in Athens. The competition, unpredictability of workouts, and the community that CrossFit promotes are the things that revealed to me that this is how I wanted to stay fit.

I am very easy to pick out of a crowd. Often wearing anything neon, bouncing around the gym, and screaming out "GOOD JOB, 5:30!!! WOOOO" after workouts.

"You don't have to be the best. Just be your best."
